The dcif (Deutsches Competitive Intelligence Forum) awards students for the best student paper, thesis, case study or dissertation, covering Competitive Intelligence related papers and/or Best Practice of Competitive Intelligence in companies.
Context
In particular, statements are made about the expected implications for ones own company and, based on this, actionable recommendations are made. Competitive Intelligence (the observation of markets and competition) changes the way companies organise themselves and optimises their value chain processes.
The main applications of Competitive Intelligence reflect the diversity of possible topics (see topics of last previous years winners)
- Competitor Profiling (facts, intentions, behaviour profiles, threats and opportunities)
- (Strategic) Early warning & alerting
- Benchmarking (business processes, technologies, products, business performance)
- Evaluations of technology (current and future technologies)
- Opportunity and risk analysis for new products/services/sales regions
- Environment Scanning (new providers/products/ services/technologies/ channels, alliances, barriers for market entry, etc.)
- Issue Monitoring (business relevant topics for ones own business)
- Evaluation of ones own positioning in the market (alignment of ones own perception with the perceptions of competitors and customers, coverage of customer requirements)
- Tools & techniques for CI analysis (data mining, text mining, etc.)
- Development of CI infrastructures (processes, systems, know-how)
- CI education
Award Allocation
From the submitted contributions, the best 3 will receive awards at the annual dcif conference (First place: 500,- EUR; Second place: 300,- EUR; Third place: 200,- EUR).
In addition, the authors of selected contributions will be invited to present a poster session and / or give a presentation.
The authors of the 3 award winning contributions and the invited participants for the poster session will also receive free entry to the dcif CI conference 2008.
The contributions have to be original, and must be submitted for review in either the German or English language. Contributions are to be submitted in the form of 3 paper printed versions (unbound) or a Word/pdf file. The contributions should have been previously submitted for evaluation to an educational establishment during the past two years. In case contributions include confidential business contents, the contributions can be made anonymous in a reasonable way. All contributions, however, must have permission to be published.
Criteria for the evaluation
- Problem Definition (CI view)
- Application of CI methods and problem solving techniques
- Clarity of presentation
- Relevance of conclusions for SCIP members
The jury reserves the right to eventually award less than 3 contributions.
